What this release uses
The corrected edition stores your theme preference in plt-theme. Older plt-lang values may remain from an earlier release. Local storage is different from a cookie: the browser does not automatically attach these values to every HTTP request. Preferences remain until you change them or clear the site's stored data.
Speed-test results, the last three runs, notes and the Connection Lab calculator use only the current page’s memory. Closing or reloading the page clears their entries. No analytics or advertising scripts are initialized by this release, and the site does not use them to set optional tracking cookies.
Your controls
To remove preferences, open your browser's settings, find cookies or site data, search for internetspeedtest.io, and remove that site's data. This resets its stored preferences. You can also change language or theme through the site controls. You do not need to erase all browser data.
Clearing this site's data does not remove files you downloaded, reports you shared, third-party service records or Android app data. Manage each of those separately.
Network services are not the same as tracking cookies
The website and test endpoints still receive ordinary request information, including your IP address. Only the legacy profile API uses a server-side IPwho.is lookup; the corrected browser test does not request it automatically, as explained in the privacy policy. Hosting or security services may apply their own operational controls; disabling analytics does not mean that no network data is processed.
Before optional tracking is introduced
Advertising or analytics must not be enabled merely because you selected a language, started a test or continued browsing. If introduced later, the site must explain the purposes and providers and provide applicable consent, rejection and withdrawal controls before the relevant processing begins. These controls will be tested before activation.
